Amy O'Mara's Bio
Amy has been racing only a few years but in that time she has certainly made a few stand up and notice. The girl from the Northern Beaches of Sydney is definitely not fazed by mixing it up with the boys. In 2009 she took the plunge and entered into one of Australia’s most hotly contested road race titles, the Australian Superstock 600cc Championship.
Even before the bike bug bit, Amy displayed a competitive streak for riding competing successfully for many years in horse events around the countryside. Amy just simply decided it was time to upgrade the ‘horesepower’!
Amy has proven to be a fast and determined rider, she’s not there to make up the numbers. She has gained respect in the testosterone charged environment of the racing paddock for her competitiveness and toughness. Some of the get-offs would be enough for many guys to pull the pin on racing but Amy bounces back more determined that ever to succeed.
In 2008 with just a few years of motorcycle experience under her belt Yamaha signed her up to ride the FZ6 bike for the whole season of the Australian Superbike Series. Promoting women in racing along with raising funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the year was spent learning the craft of motorcycling racing and testing her limits racing the tracks in Australia and against other seasoned racers.
In 2009 Yamaha again supported her in the Australian Superstock 600 class aboard a brightly coloured pink R6. That year she used her racing exploits and exposure as a way to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation. 2009 proved to be tougher than ever with consistently approximately 40 guys making up a grid and Amy the only female in Australia competing the whole season.
2010 saw Australia’s fastest road racing girl back on two wheels competing in the Australian Superstock 600cc class on her trusty Yamaha R6 AND stepping it up aboard a Yamaha R1 in the 1000cc class to test her skills in the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship. It was a very busy season indeed racing both bikes however she had a successful ride on both bikes and now she's back again competing in 2011 in a range of different road race series across Australia.
