It was a great weekend of racing at Wakefield Park and I had forgot how much fun the small delight at Goulburn really is. I hadn't ridden at the track in 18 months nor have I had the pleasure of racing my my Yamaha R6 around there - except for a few small laps in an endurance that 18months ago so it was a solid 3 days of riding and 6 full races so its no wonder im sore today!

We were blessed with a wind free beautiful 30 degree day both Saturday and Sunday so racing conditions were perfect, well maybe a bit hot in the leathers perhaps. There was 1 qualifying session and 3 races on Saturday and the same for Sunday.

The 3rd round of the Formula Xtreme Road Race Series was held 2^nd/3^rd July at my home track Eastern Creek. An entry list of 43 guys proved it was going to be a tough gig – and without a lot of practice under my belt I was going to be up for a challenge. I had entered my Yamaha R6 Supersport spec bike in the Formula Oz class – this class consists of 600cc and 1000cc bikes so it was tough trying to pass the 1000cc’s, the 5 lap race distance just didn’t seem long enough to overtake the 1000s one by one so from the start of a race it was very aggressive through the first few turns in order to be up the front of the pack Friday was mostly a wet track until the afternoon so I only managed to get 2 practice sessions in before qualifying on Saturday. Qualifying on Saturday on a damp track didn’t leave me with the best of lap times but I managed to score a qualifying position of 11^th which I was happy with.

Over the weekend I managed to get some good lap times – quickest being 1.39.3 - unfortunately no personal best lap times – but still on the pace from the last time I raced at Eastern Creek. The next race is in Victoria at Winton on the first weekend for September which I am really looking forward to as it is a tight twisty track and I’m sure my 600cc will be all over those pesky 1000cc!
