Formula Xtreme Championship - Round 2 - Winton Raceway - VIC - June 2010

It was a great weekend of racing at Wakefield Park and I had forgot how much fun the small delight at Goulburn really is. I hadn't ridden at the track in 18 months nor have I had the pleasure of racing my my Yamaha R6 around there - except for a few small laps in an endurance that 18months ago so it was a solid 3 days of riding and 6 full races so its no wonder im sore today!
We were blessed with a wind free beautiful 30 degree day both Saturday and Sunday so racing conditions were perfect, well maybe a bit hot in the leathers perhaps. There was 1 qualifying session and 3 races on Saturday and the same for Sunday.

Talk about freezing cold! Although the sun was shining for the 3 days at Winton Raceway the temperature was very cold and it made me realise that tyre warmers serve more of a purpose than just heating rubber - they are used to defrost hands and feet.

I had only ridden at Winton once before and not on my R6 so I knew there was going to be a challenge ahead. I went into qualifying on the Saturday a little disappointed as my practice times from the day before left a little to be desired but decided to make some small set-up changes to the suspension to make the braking a little bit more stable. This worked in my favour as I had "Pinky" feeling the best she has probably ever felt. We did have our qualifying session very early in the morning which left a great deal of fog sitting over the track and it made it extremely hard to see and jude your speed.

It did take most of Saturday (yes I was having a shocker!) to get the confidence to push a bit harder for Sunday as it was a very unfamilar, twisty and extremely bumpy racetrack!

There were approximatley 30 entries and I was planning on a top 10 finish for the weekend so I knew I had my owrk cut out for me. I guess I didnt eat my weet-bix on Saturday as my results werent as great as I'd hoped but I managed to get it togetehr for Sunday to keep me in the top 10 for the overall series points. In 4 weeks we head to Eastern Creek whoch is my home track - I'll be pushing for better than a top 10 result that's for sure :)

Current;y placed 10th overall in the 600cc Championship
