Formula Xtreme Championship - Formula Oz Class - Round 1 - Eastern Creek 2011

It was a great weekend of racing at Wakefield Park and I had forgot how much fun the small delight at Goulburn really is. I hadn't ridden at the track in 18 months nor have I had the pleasure of racing my my Yamaha R6 around there - except for a few small laps in an endurance that 18months ago so it was a solid 3 days of riding and 6 full races so its no wonder im sore today!

We were blessed with a wind free beautiful 30 degree day both Saturday and Sunday so racing conditions were perfect, well maybe a bit hot in the leathers perhaps. There was 1 qualifying session and 3 races on Saturday and the same for Sunday.

The 1^st round of the Formula Xtreme Road Race Series was held 12/13^th March and it was a case of last minute chaos preparing the bikes and myself - a reminder of what the first race for the year is usually like! It had been a long 4 months over Christmas and the New Year without throwing a leg in the saddle but by the end of the weekend it was back to basics. The new paint job that adorned the R6 was that bright most people had to wear their sunnies whilst admiring her Fluro Pink colour scheme. I was definately impressed with the colour. I had entered in the Formula Oz class – this class consists of 600cc and 1000cc bikes – as my bike has now been modified I had to race against the 1000s which proved to bit a little hard, especially down the straight as she just didn’t have big enough legs to carry the same speed, then the big bikes hold the 600cc bikes up mid corner so I had to adapt to a new racing line to try and avoid them – around the outside of them of a turn proved to be the easiest way past them. Friday was mostly a wet track until the afternoon so I only managed to get 2 practice sessions in before qualifying on Saturday which left me feeling a little out of practice that’s for sure. Over the weekend I managed to get some good lap times – unfortunately no personal best lap times – but still consistent from the last time I rode. My R6 handled perfectly throughout the weekend and I was happy with my end result – gaining second place overall for the weekend for the Supersport category and a nice trophy to take home.
